One of the many legends about Syracuse's city is Arethusa myth.
Arethusa was a nymph, one day the young Alpheus fell in love with her.
But Arethusa not reciprocated this love and asked Artemis to help her.
Artemis transformed her in source, right in Ortigia. Alpheus asked the gods to be able to join the Arethusa and turned it into a river that flows right in the spring of Arethusa. Since then, the waters of Arethusa and Alpheus come together for eternity.
It is in the spring of Arethusa in Ortygia, there is a statue of Arethusa and Alpheus.

Una delle tante leggende che avvolge la citta' di Siracusa e' quella di Aretusa.
Aretusa era una ninfa, un giorno il giovane Alfeo,la vide e se ne innamoro' perdutamente.
Aretusa pero' non contraccambiava questo amore e chiese ad Artemide di aiutarla.
Artemide, la trasformo' in fonte , proprio nel lido di Ortigia. Alfeo a quel punto,chiese agli Dei di poter unirsi ad Aretusa e gli dei lo trasformarono in fiume che sfocia proprio nella fonte Aretusa. Da allora le acque di Aretusa ed Alfeo si fondono per l'eternita'.
Proprio alla fonte Aretusa, in Ortigia, troviamo una statua che rappresenta Aretusa e Alfeo.
